Kilian Jornet and Lina El Kott Helander took the victories at the Skyrace Comapedrosa in Andorra on Sunday.
With altitude, ridges, sprints, a stacked field, high-level competition, Skyrace Comapedrosa had all the ingredients for a great Skyrunning race. Athletes ran, walked and clambered their way across 21km on a route with 2300m of elevation gain, including an ascent and descent of the principality’s highest peak, Comapedrosa.

Jornet, just three weeks after setting a record for the Bob Graham Round in England’s Lake District, was back on more familiar territory. The Spaniard, who won the race in 2007, 2008 and 2009, launched an attack after 10km into the race crossed the finish in Aransal in a course record 2 hours 33 minutes 18 seconds – more than three minutes ahead of Switzerland’s Pascal Egli (2:36:29). Sweden’s Petter Engdahl was third in 2:39:12.
Jornet said: “I’m very happy to run back here,” said Jornet. “Actually here I won my first world cup back in 2007 and also in 2008and 2009 so coming back here is always a pleasure – like being back home! Today there was a big field that was very strong with Pascal [Egli] and Finlay [Wild].” finished the statement for Trail Running Magazine.

Britain’s Finlay Wild, who went into this race leading the MIGU RUN Skyrunner World Series “Classic” category, was fourth in 2:41:34.
As on the men’s side, it was Brit who had led the women’s “classic” leaderboard, but Holly Page also encountered a very strong field and was fifth behind El Kott Helander.
The Swede clocked a course record 3:03:07 as she beat Spain’s Laura Orgue by three minutes (3:06:54). Sanna El Kott Helander, the twin of the winner, was third in 3:11:53. Behind last year’s winner, Sheila Aviles, Page was timed at 3:16:19.
On her second victory of the circuit, rising star Lina El Kott, commented, “I felt strong all the way and really pushed from the start because I feel unsure on the downhill. I concentrated on the uphill and it worked so I’m really happy about that. I will now wait for my sister who will come in third!
